If you need to take a break from practice for any of the following reasons:
- Financial reasons
- Parental leave
- Health reasons
- Sabbatical (career reasons)
- Any other reason which is not related to your professional standing
You will need to complete the relevant form to notify Metanoia. You will also need to notify UKCP directly.
This will suspend your membership and fees for a period of up to one year. You are able to take two separate leave periods in each five-year reaccreditation period, up to eighteen months in duration.
If you require a longer period of time away, you will need to reapply for your membership in full using the Metanoia Membership Form and the APL accreditation application form.

Reaccreditation During a Break
Your five-year reaccreditation is not delayed by taking a break from practice within the five-year period. However, the hours of practice, supervision and CPD are reduced over the period covered in the reaccreditation.
For a newly qualified registrant completing the minimum level of practice, the expected requirements are:
- Minimum practice: 4 client contact hours per week = 160 hours per annum = 800 hours over 5 years
- Minimum supervision: 2 hours per month = 24 hours per annum = 120 hours over 5 years
- Modality-specific supervision: At least 25% of required supervision, i.e. at least 6 hours per year if the person is in the 2 hours per month band
If one year of leave is taken within this period, the expected requirements are:
- Minimum practice: 4 client contact hours per week over 4 years = 640 hours
- Minimum supervision: 2 hours per month = 96 hours
- Modality-specific supervision: At least 25% of required supervision, i.e. at least 6 hours per year if the person is in the 2 hours per month band. This remains at 6 hours per year.
