Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is the senior body acting with legal and strategic/operational accountability for Metanoia Institute. The various authorities and actions pertaining to the Board of Trustees are detailed in two formal documents: the organisation’s Articles of Government and Articles of Association. These include: responsibility for corporate governance, corporate performance monitoring, financial stewardship, and the on-going management, appraisal, and support of the Chief Executive Officer.

Board of Trustees: Members

Sally Glen, Chair of Board of Trustees

Professor Sally Glen is an academic with extensive strategic leadership experience as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dean at various universities.

She has published widely in the field of healthcare professional education and continues to supervise mid-career health professionals undertaking health-related PhDs. Sally has a number of active roles and interests:

  • A Non-Executive Director of a Mental Health/ Community NHS Trust
    Trustee of a Charity supporting people with disabilities and/or mental health challenges and/or autism
  • Trustee of a Charity supporting people with a Personality Disorder and Complex Trauma
  • A Samaritan Leader and Listener

Dotun Olaleye, Vice Chair; Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Sub-Committee

Dotun Olaleye is consultant, advisor and coach who develops and implements growth strategies, leads performance transformation and builds capabilities for organisations across the education, charitable and public sectors.

A fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and managing director of one of the leading consultancy firms in the UK providing services to schools, charities and public sector organisations.

He is also a qualified project and programme manager. He is a governor of two primary schools within Essex. Dotun values community work which is why he volunteers at a homeless centre in East London.

Nafeesa Mitha, Trustee

Nafeesa is a qualified chartered accountant and finance manager at The Health Foundation.

She started her career in medicine, qualifying in 2011 before making a career change to accountancy in 2016.

Nafeesa is also an active volunteer in her religious community and a representative for her local mosque forming links with local organisations to improve the health and wellbeing of the local community as part of Ismaili CIVIC.

Anthea Bamford, Trustee

Anthea is a lawyer with over 25 years of experience working in international law firms in London and Australia and as the in-house counsel for large real estate investors.

Until recently, she was Legal Director for Canary Wharf Group plc, advising on corporate, financing and real estate matters. Prior to that, she was a partner in two international law firms in London.

Anthea has advised some of the world’s largest investment funds and companies on their real estate interests, joint ventures and property operations. She has also advised a number of London-based charities, with particular emphasis on work that delivers positive social impact in our community. She is also a non-executive director of a co-living start up.

Gillian McGrattan, Trustee and Chair of Staffing and Remuneration Committee (SARSC)

Gillian studied Medical Sciences at the University of Birmingham, followed by a Humanities degree in Oxford. Her early career path was as an economist and country risk analyst working for City banks, before moving into people strategy and development, still in banking and supported further by an MBA from Warwick Business School. Her HR/people career took her to directorships in professional services, a board role at National Savings and Investments and, most recently, director roles with the Universities of Warwick and Birmingham. She retired from her executive role in August 2024 and has recently been appointed as a non-executive director at University Hospitals Birmingham in addition to her role on the Board of Trustees at Metanoia Institute.

David Marchant, Trustee

David has held executive-level roles, including chief commercial officer, with responsibility for global operations, commercial strategy, and technology transformation. He has a strong track record of supporting organisations through complex change, including digital transformation, SaaS adoption and operational improvement, ensuring that strategy translates into measurable and sustainable performance.

Alongside his executive career, David advises boards and leadership teams on governance maturity, risk oversight, and organisational effectiveness. He brings expertise in data, AI, and operating model transformation, helping organisations align innovation with strong governance and clear outcomes.

At Metanoia Institute, David contributes to board oversight of organisational performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability, with a focus on ensuring that strong governance supports a high-quality student experience.

David is known for providing balanced challenge and support at board level, helping organisations move from strong foundations to sustained maturity through disciplined execution, clear evidence and effective decision-making.

Heather Salway (Trustee)

Heather is currently a director of Jump Advisory Group, with expertise in people strategy and practice, talent retention, leadership, learning & development, employee relations and employment law.

She is an ILM Level 7 Executive Coach & Leadership Mentor with 30 years of experience working with large and small businesses across the UK, Europe and the USA to promote growth, improve quality & productivity and attract, engage and retain fantastic teams.

She was previously non-executive director of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, the professional membership body whose aims include driving up standards in the recruitment industry, a school governor, and non-executive director of a digital marketing start-up.

Caitlyn Owen, Trustee

Caitlyn Owen is a strategic change leader with over 15 years’ experience spanning consultancy, corporate real estate and organisational transformation.

She is currently Director of Behavioural Change and Colleague Engagement at Barclays, leading strategic communication, behavioural change and process transformation across the bank’s Corporate Real Estate.

Caitlyn brings expertise in governance, commercial decision-making and organisational culture, with a strong track record of helping organisations align strategy, operations and people to deliver meaningful change.

She is deeply passionate about supporting the development of others through mentorship and coaching, helping individuals build confidence, capability and achieve their potential.

Param Singh Sahni, Student Trustee

Param is a psychotherapeutic counsellor and recovery coach from the global majority, currently in his final year of advanced psychotherapy training at the Metanoia Institute. With nearly a decade of experience in support roles, he specialises in grief, cultural issues, addiction recovery, depression, neurodivergence, and helping people move through life changes. He is passionate about nature and animals and addressing the unique challenges faced by men of colour. He is a co-founder of The Work UK, emphasising the importance of men supporting men in opening up about their mental health and breaking down outdated notions of masculinity for personal growth.

Param now works in private practice, as well as the charity sector as a leader at Ealing RISE (Drug & Alcohol Service). He also works for Ealing Abbey Counselling Service, Kingston Bereavement Service and has experience supporting Metanoia’s Counselling and Psychotherapy Service, Adfam, and Sikh Community groups as well as various other charities and support services locally and internationally.

Sub-committees

The work of the Board of Trustees is supported by two specialist sub-committees: the Finance, Audit and Risk Sub-Committee (FARSC) and the Staffing and Remuneration Sub-Committee (SARSC).

The purpose of the FARSC is to assist the Board of Trustees in fulfilling their statutory financial responsibilities and in discharging their duties diligently and efficiently. It also supports the Board of Trustees in scrutinising the financial controls regarding internal risk assessment and the performance and objectivity of external auditors whom it appoints. The purpose of the SARSC is to oversee and support policies and practice in relation to the People and Culture functions and to make proposals to the Board of Trustees for implementation.
