John Higgins

Independent Academic and Researcher; Research Director at The Right Conversation
John Higgins MA (Cantab) MSc (Organisational Change) John is an independent academic and researcher who worked closely for many years with the Ashridge Doctorate and Masters in Organisational Change, co-editing three books based on the experience of its students and faculty. Since 2014 he has co-researched and written alongside Professor Megan Reitz exploring the principles and practice of speaking truth to power, workplace activism and more recently spaciousness – which explores what it takes to step out of norms of wilful busyness. Their work has been widely published, including in leading management journals such as the Harvard Business Review and the MIT Sloan Management Review. Their latest book is due out in 2027, to be published by MIT University Press, with the working title of ‘Permission to Pause’. Alongside this work, John is the Research Director at The Right Conversation while also working closely with Dr Mark Cole exploring the unhelpful assumptions underpinning modern management, the nature of silence in the workplace (see ‘The Great Unheard’ – Routledge, 2023) and the application of existential philosophy to the workplace. With a growing interest in the traditions of autoethnographic approaches, he has recently become a co-convenor of the South Coast Autoethnography Network. He is greatly influenced by his time as prime carer to his two now-adult daughters and the years he spent in Jungian analysis, while drawing on an earlier career in a variety of line and R&D roles within the consulting and technology industries.
