Dr Warren is a Counselling Psychologist and UKCP-registered integrative psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in addiction treatment settings in various capacities including assessment, programme design, group facilitation, and individual therapy.
Her training started in South Africa where she worked alongside a multidisciplinary team in psychiatric services. Initially informed by medical model understandings of addiction and eating disorders, she went on to develop a keen interest in how social practices, identity, and meaning are constructed within addiction and addicted groups and how these might translate or transform into a culture of ‘recovery.’
Early research interests were deeply impacted by spending time in an organisation that advocated for the rights of sex-workers. This broadened to interest in the ethics of decriminalisation more generally. Current research interests are how language and constructs of health, gender and agency inform treatment practices. Her Doctoral research focused how the addicted woman is constructed in academic literature and by clinicians.
