Supporting Information

This interactive online CPD workshop explores how epigenetic research, intergenerational trauma and anti-oppressive practice intersect in contemporary therapeutic work.

Drawing on current research and clinically relevant theory, the session introduces key epigenetic concepts and examines how trauma may be transmitted across generations – particularly within contexts shaped by racialisation, migration, structural inequality and historical harm. Participants will explore how power, positionality and systemic oppression influence formulation, therapeutic stance and relational dynamics.

The workshop introduces the IERA-Therapy (Integrative Epigenetic Relational Therapy Approach) framework as a reflective and conceptual lens for understanding intergenerational patterns in practice. Through a blend of teaching, guided reflection, small group discussion and case-based application, participants will consider how to integrate anti-oppressive and trauma-informed principles while avoiding biological determinism.

Designed for counselling and psychotherapy trainees, qualified therapists, supervisors and educators, this session supports ethically grounded, socially engaged and evidence-informed practice. Delivery is trauma-aware and neurodiversity-affirming, with clear structure, consent-based participation and accessible materials.
