Aims of the Training Programme

  • To provide participants with the theoretical basis and practical skills in supervision so that they can practice independently or in professional associations as supervisors for a range of practitioners within the helping professions. This standard is equivalent to that required by other professional associations for the accreditation of supervisors.
  • To create a semi-structured learning experience that provides models or frameworks of working knowledge and skills and reflective/reflexive practice, which can support a collaborative, coherent and cohesive approach to your best supervision practice.
  • To provide an open, creative, relational approach which supports the participants of the course to particularly to develop a stance of sharing and exchanging many areas of knowledge and expertise. This also includes the diversity of professional backgrounds, contexts and theoretical orientations providing a richness of experience, critical challenge and throughout the training.

 

Teaching Methods:

The course runs across six two-day modules, spaced monthly to allow integration and application of learning. With strong emphasis on live practice, supervision skills are developed experientially through exercises, discussion, and reflection. Full attendance and written work lead to certification.

Training Programme Design
The course is structured across six 2-day modules, spaced approximately monthly to allow space for integration and application of ideas in practice. There is a considerable course emphasis on the practice of supervision. To facilitate this there is an opportunity across all the modules for live practice throughout the course. Full course attendance and completion of the written work leads to the achievement of a Metanoia Certificate in Clinical Supervision.

Assessment Methods:
Students must attend at least 80% of course hours, making up missed modules by arrangement with the tutor. Assessment includes two 2,000-word assignments – My Philosophy of Supervision and Relating Practice and Theory. Successful attendance, peer presentation, and written work lead to the award of the Certificate.

Clinical/Placement Information:
Clinical placement component includes delivery of supervised supervision, with 80% attendance and a log of hours required.

Training Options:
The Certificate in Clinical Supervision is delivered part-time over six two-day modules, usually scheduled monthly to allow space for integration and practice between sessions. Teaching is interactive and practice-oriented, with a strong emphasis on live supervision throughout the course. Participants are expected to attend at least 80% of taught hours and complete written assignments. Intakes run annually, with the course spanning one academic year. Successful completion leads to the award of the Metanoia Certificate in Clinical Supervision, meeting BACP and UKCP requirements.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be qualified practitioners in a helping profession, for example, psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, psychiatrists, or social workers, who are firmly grounded in their own orientation to clinical practice.

Language Requirements:
IELTS 6.5 overall (minimum 6.0 in each component) or equivalent – required for non-native English speakers.
