The Practitioner Certificate in Creative Writing for Therapeutic Purposes (CWTP) is a 10-day programme for therapists and senior trainees. Delivered across five two-day blocks, it blends theory, experiential writing, and practice delivery. Participants gain practical skills, peer feedback, and creative confidence for therapeutic application.
Course Philosophy
Grounded in humanistic and experiential learning, CWTP emphasises creativity as a pathway to healing. Students explore language, narrative, and imagination as therapeutic tools for personal growth and professional practice.
Supporting Information
Teaching Methods: The course employs a variety of teaching methods including creative writing exercises, group discussions, small group work, and collaborative tasks. Students will design and deliver CWTP workshops, receive formative feedback, and participate in individual tutorials to assess competence. An essay post-course further explores CWTP understandings and applications.
Training Options: The CWTP Certificate runs annually from February to June, delivered part-time across five weekend blocks (Fridays and Saturdays). This intensive structure supports professional development alongside existing commitments. Each block combines experiential writing workshops, theoretical input, and collaborative group activities. Students are expected to complete pre- and post-session reading and tasks to consolidate learning. A key element is devising and delivering a practice session, allowing participants to apply CWTP methods in a safe, supported environment. Learning is interactive, immersive, and designed for qualified therapists and senior trainees.
Graduates enhance their therapeutic practice through the integration of creative writing techniques and may develop or deliver workshops, programmes, and interventions within counselling, wellbeing, or community contexts.
