I read History at Selwyn College, Cambridge, and then went on to do a PhD under John Morrill’s supervision. I became a Research Fellow of Selwyn in 1988, and I was then appointed to my present post as a Teaching Fellow and Director of Studies in History in 1992. I became a College Associate Professor in 2024. My main areas of academic interest lie in early modern British political and constitutional history, especially in the seventeenth century.
