Melissa Cliffe

Head of Programme, MSc Humanistic Psychotherapy

Melissa joined Metanoia in 2020 as a primary tutor and took on the Director of Studies role in 2023. She qualified as a Gestalt psychotherapist in 2008 and has since maintained a private practice in East London working with individuals and couples. Her approach integrates Humanistic principles and EMDR. Over the years she has worked with adults, children and adolescents, in a hospice bereavement service, for Employee Assistance Providers, run groups for ex members of cults and coercive groups, and groups for midlife women. She has designed courses for a mental health app and delivered mental health training to establishments such as the Home Office, British Library and the NHS. She acts as a UKCP spokesperson. Melissa has a particular interest in women’s issues and midlife. Currently she is engaged in research and working towards her PhD. Prior to training as a psychotherapist Melissa worked in events and marketing, and learned many skills that continue to be useful today.
