Course Overview:
This NICE-approved NHS Talking Therapies licensing programme equips practitioners with advanced skills in addressing depression through person-centred experiential counselling. Delivered in two modules combining intensive training and supervised clinical practice, it integrates research, theory, and practice while developing competence in risk assessment, emotional processes, and outcome evaluation.

Course Philosophy:
Rooted in person-centred experiential values, this programme emphasises therapeutic depth, reflexivity, and relational understanding. It enables practitioners to deliver focused, evidence-based interventions supporting meaningful change and is one of the approved, evidence-based models available within NHS settings.

Modules:

  • Module I: PCE-CfD Practitioner Education

  • Module II: PCE-CfD Practitioner Assessed Practice

Teaching Methods:
Students gain knowledge, understanding, and skills through experiential and reflexive engagement with concepts and practice. Teaching methods include group exercises, discussions, and practical application of theory. The programme is supported by work-based learning from supervised clinical practice, enabling students to integrate subject and professional knowledge, skills, and behaviours to meet course learning outcomes and professional body competences.

Assessment Methods:
Four audio recordings of sessions with different clients must be submitted and assessed using the PCEPS tool. Two recordings should be from sessions after the 10th session of PCE-CfD counselling. Bespoke PCE-CfD supervision is provided throughout.

Clinical/Placement Information:
After the initial 6-day (5 + 1) training programme, participants undertake assessed clinical practice comprising a minimum of 80 hours of supervised PCE-CfD counselling, with bespoke PCE-CfD practice-development supervision provided by the course.

Training Options:
The Practitioner Licence in PCE-CfD is delivered in two stages:

  • Module 1: Six days of training – five consecutive days followed by a one-day follow-up around three months later, combining didactic and experiential learning with skills assessment.

  • Module 2: Assessed clinical practice requiring a minimum of 80 hours of supervised PCE-CfD counselling, alongside four audio recordings assessed via the validated PCEPS tool.

Training is part-time and flexible, with intakes offered throughout the year. Supervision is bespoke for practice development and integrated throughout.
